How radiofrequency ablation works
A Medtronic ClosureFast catheter is inserted through a needle puncture and heats the vein wall to 120°C in controlled 7 cm or 3 cm segments for 20 seconds each. The generator monitors temperature and tissue resistance throughout. Blood is then redirected through healthy deep veins.
The procedure, step by step
Ultrasound marking
The doctor identifies and marks the affected vein using ultrasound.
Local anaesthesia
Tumescent local anaesthesia delivered with a Nouvag pump; no general anaesthesia.
Segmental ablation
The catheter closes the vein segment by segment under ultrasound guidance.
Compression and home the same day
Compression stockings are applied and you go home the same day.
